BETWEEN INTERNATIONAL PLANNING AND REGIONAL IMPLEMENTATION

Background & Context

During the Egyptian National Youth Conference last October, President Abdel-Fattah El Sisi declared 2019 as “The Year of Education”, underpinning Egypt's 2030 vision and the government’s plan for education reform … a reform that NAQAAE embodies its capstone. Central to the reform endeavors and to vision 2030, is the internationalization of education. NAQAAE, by virtue of its mandate, is entrusted with assuring the quality of educational outcomes and building national and international trust in them. In its quest to achieve its mandate, and to contribute to the realization of vision 2030, NAQAAE adopted a vision that situates it as " A leading quality assurance and accreditation body that is recognized nationally, regionally and internationally, and a principal partner in educational development and reform in in Egypt", rendering Internationalization a main strategic objectives for NAQAAE.

Guided by its vision, NAQAAE worked over the last few years to achieve international recognition, being keen on strengthening its relationship with international QA bodies and becoming a part of regional and international QA networks. A recent addition to NAQAAE's achievements in this context is its membership of the CHEA-CIQG, as well as subjecting itself to two major external review visits in 2018; the WFME recognition visit – at the International level, and the HAQA initiative external review- at the Continental level.

NAQAAE has always been an active player on the African/Continental front, holding the vice presidency of Afri-QAN's first executive board, and participating actively in both the Tuning Africa and the HAQA arms of the Pan African Quality Assurance Framework (PAQAF). This engagement into African QA has grown into a serious commitment with Egypt's presiding the African Union for the year 2019, reflecting the wholistic Egyptian commitment to the welfare and development of Africa as a national strategic priority.

Tackling national strategic issues in education and addressing the current and anticipated challenges of the rapidly changing education arena are at the core of NAQAAE’s interests. In that respect, NAQAAE’s annual International Conference is one of its main means to discuss these issues and challenges with a wide base of national stakeholders as well as regional and international partners. Hence the choice of NAQAAE’s 6th International Conference theme " Quality Assurance of Education: Planning International, Acting Regional”.

NAQAAE’s Sixth International conference is posing the following and other questions for wide stakeholders’ discussion:
